  • Overview

    The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger of the organization and its’ affiliates. This includes reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, production of periodic financial reports; and maintenance of an adequate accounting system, budget development, financial analysis and risk management in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.


    • In conjunction with the CFO and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), coordinates the development and monitoring of annual agency budget and individual program budgets.
    • Participates in the development of the agency’s goals, strategies, plans, and programs.
    • Prepares and provides timely and accurate budgets, financial reports, and analysis of financial trends and the agency’s financial position in order to assist the CFO, CEO and Board of Directors in the performance of their responsibilities.
    • Reconciles balance sheet accounts on a monthly and/or quarterly basis as identified by the CFO.
    • Ensures timely reporting of financial and other reports to contractors, vendors, plans and federal and state agencies.
    • Provides technical financial assistance to program and support staff, and the Management Team, through reports, training, and individual consultation.
    • Optimizes the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
    • Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors (financial, workers compensation, insurance, etc.)
    • Complies with local, state, and federal government requirements (payroll tax, HUD, HOME, etc.)
    • Works with Accounting/HR/Information Technology staff to ensure effective communication in job responsibilities.
    • Regularly evaluates the financial processes for continued improvement of efficiency and effectiveness, including provision of opportunities for professional development.
    • Provides oversight of accounts payable and payroll functions.



    • Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
    • Experience – 3 years of financial reporting experience.
    • License/Certification – Certification as a CPA preferred.
    • Regulatory
    • 21 years of age
    • Current, valid Arizona Driver’s License and 39 month Motor Vehicle Report to meet insurance requirements.
    • Eligible for DPS Level I fingerprint clearance.
    • First Aide, CPR certification (Employer provides).
    • Initial negative TB test result (Employer provides)


    • Demonstrated working knowledge of general office software, including Microsoft Office Suite and, preferably, GP Dynamics.
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of not-for-profit accounting in accordance with GAAP, HUD program regulations and compliance, and appropriate Code of Federal Regulations.
