  • Overview

    Maintenance Specialist I for Landscaping, groundskeeping and painting is a Maintenance team member responsible for the upkeep of landscaping and grounds, painting  and light maintenance for residential and office sites of the organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Installs and maintains landscaped areas of residential and office sites, to include mulching, fertilizing, and watering plants, trees, and shrubs; pruning shrubs and trees, and mowing and watering lawns.
    • Rakes and sweeps areas on a monthly basis; uses irrigation methods to adjust water consumption and prevent waste;
    • Maintains the upkeep and repair of walkways, parking areas, grounds keeping equipment, planters, and outdoor seating.
    • Paints walls, and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. May remove old paint to prepare surface prior to painting.
    • Supports other maintenance staff to complete various maintenance and emergency repairs and moving furniture.
    • Provides light maintenance of all residential and office sites, as assigned.
    • Reports findings to Facilities Manager in cases of liability or safety issues.
    • Responds to minor emergency repairs on-call 24-hours per day/7-days per week rotation  (usually one week per month).
    • Maintains an approved schedule and acceptable level of attendance.

    Qualifications

    • Education - High School diploma or GED preferred
    • Experience - Formal training in turf management, pesticide application, plant maintenance, and landscape design is desirable.Two years relevant experience required.
    • 21 years of age
    • Arizona Drivers license, 39-month Motor Vehicle Report, current Registration and Insurance to meet agency insurance requirements.
    • Eligible to clear DPS Level I fingerprint clearance.
    • Initial Physical Exam and current negative TB test within the prior 12 months. (Employer provides)
    • Must have own reliable transportation (pickup preferred). Mileage allowance paid.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Demonstrated knowledge of uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of related machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the correct paints or finishes for the surface to be covered, taking into account durability, ease of handling and method of application.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the maintenance and basic repair of houses and buildings.
    • Ability to skillfully and safely handles supplies and operate equipment, to complete daily duties of the position.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal  instructions; ability to respond in writing or verbally to supervisor and co-workers.
    • Ability to generate or use different sets of rules for combining or grouping things in different ways

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to stand, and hold arms over head, for long periods of time; able to do a considerable amount of climbing, bending and crouching.
    • Ability to quickly and repeatedly move arms and legs; bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms, and/or legs.
    • Ability to exert self physically over an extended period of time.
    • Ability to exert maximum force to lift, push, carry or pull objects.
    • Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time; the ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time.
