  • Overview

    The HR Intern is able to observe and be observed directly by an HR Generalist or HR Director for healthcare benefits system management.


    • Observes New Employee Orientation (NEO) benefits review.
    • Observes electronic benefits file management on Navigator Employee Self Service (ESS) software; Microsoft Dynamics GP HRIS/payroll system and internal shared drive folder.
    • Under the direct observation of an HR Generalist, checks enrollment status, processes enrollments, compiles reports, and processes terminations in the application.
    • Observes and then participates in benefits premium audits with HR Generalist and Payroll Administrator.
    • Observes and assists with invoice reconciliation for benefits.
    • Observes processes, participates in discussions regarding, and compiles information for ACA reporting.
    • Becomes familiar with Summary Plan Descriptions for various benefits, and is able to discuss eligibility requirements, qualifying events and basics of how a Health Savings Account (HSA) works in conjunction with a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).
    • Participates in discussions regarding HR best practices, State and Federal regulations and laws related to healthcare benefits.


    • Education
    • High school/GED Diploma required
    • Current enrollment in a higher education program related to Human Resource management.
    • Experience – Prior work experience in an office setting preferred.

    • 18 years of age
    • Current negative TB test result (less than 6 months).
